On the 24th of September 2016, ECON Healthcare Group celebrated the official opening of our eighth ECONLIFE! Hub at Yung Kuang Road, Taman Jurong. The Official Opening Event was officiated by Guest-of-Honour Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies, and Advisor to Jurong GRC Grassroots Organisations.
By actively bringing together the heartland community of Yung Kuang across generations and lifestyles, ECONLIFE! Hub keenly promotes health and wellness by integrating well-loved activities ranging from exercise classes to simple pleasures such as arts and craft into the daily lives of the elderly community. These complementing themes were reflected throughout the Official Opening Event, with musical performances and craft demonstrations by ECONLIFE! Hub members from across Singapore. While rousing musical routines performed by the ECONLIFE! Hub’s Ukelele and Singing Group led the residents of Yung Kuang in song and dance; arts and craft stations at the ECONLIFE! Hub allowed the residents to flex their creative juices by creating hand-made pouches, key-chains and origami flowers.
Residents were also delighted to sample health and wellness offerings by ECON Traditional Chinese medicine such as Ba Bao Cha tea; and attended free mobility and balance
assessments performed by our PhysioWorks team, which provided helpful insights on rehabilitation and physiotherapy. Another popular highlight was the booth ran by West
Point Hospital, which featured a ‘Mozzie Wipe-Out Challenge’ where residents were quizzed on ways to prevent the spread of Dengue and Zika viruses to win special prizes. ECON Careskill Training Centre answered a plethora of questions from residents, imparting useful information on care-giving for the elderly while shedding light on the importance of being equipped with life-saving skills such as Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation or CPR.
Supported by Taman Jurong Citizens’ Consultative Committee, Taman Jurong Zone C Residents’ Committee, Taman Jurong Active Ageing Committee and Pioneer Generation
Office, this collaborative event was held alongside the Taman Jurong WeCARE Health Screening Programme, in partnership with West Point Hospital Pte Ltd to provide residents of Taman Jurong with preliminary health checks for chronic diseases as well as necessary follow-up consultations.
