At ECON, we complement our Western treatment with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) services to achieve an “East Meets West” medical approach to maximize the therapeutic benefits for our customers. We have the experience and expertise to provide the following TCM services at our nursing homes and medicare centres: Acupuncture, Tuina Massage and Chinese Medication.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a form of TCM with long historical track record. According to traditional Chinese philosophy, our health is dependant on the body's motivation energy - known as Qi - moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of meridians (channels) beneath the skin.
Qi consists of equal and opposite qualities - Yin and Yang - and when these become unbalanced, illness may result. By inserting fine needles into the channels of energy, the bodies' own healing response can be stimulated and helps restore its natural balance. |

Hand and Foot Therapy
Hand or Foot Massage is the TCM physician's practice of stimulating points on the hands and feet of patients. According to TCM therory, hands are the extremities of the three Yin channels and three Yang channels of the feet. The meridian system, including channels and collaterals, links the organs internally and joins the skin externally. The disease of internal organs could be reflected in the surface of the body through the passageways of the meridian system. It is believed that by applying pressure on "reflex zones" found on the hands and feet, which are said to correspond to the internal organs of the body, Hand or Foot Massage can treat the disease of the respective organs. This is the theoretical basis of the Therapy.
Hand or Foot Medicinal Bath
Hand or Foot Medicinal Bath is the therapeutic method of soaking the patient's hands and feet in a medicinal bath, and then applying pressure to reflex zones/points. It is an external treatment. This therapy uses a solution of Hot water and Chinese herbs, which should be prescribed by TCM physicians after differential diagnosis. The disease inside the body can be treated with either external application of herbal medicines to some areas or herb medicinal bath.

Chinese Medication
Many people today are accepting Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as an effective approach in the treatment of many illnesses. For the few thousand years, vast experience has been accumulated in using Chinese medicine to suppress the aging process. Consequently, the use of Chinese medicine to treat illnesses has also been long proven, especially during the healing process and in common old age illness. Better results are often observed when coupled with the use of medicine. At ECON, we strongly believe in combining both Eastern and Western medicine to maximize the therapeutic effects to treat our residents and patients.
