1)    Nursing Skills for the Pharmacists

Course Objective
To expose the pre-graduate Pharmacists to basic nursing skills and give them an understanding of the functions of the medical items or equipments used in clinical or home based settings.

Course Outline

·         Tube feeding
·         Handle & transfer
·         Wound dressing

Course Duration
2 days (Consists of theory & practical, and half day clinical visit to one of our ECON nursing homes)

2)    Fundamentals of Nursing
 

Course Objective
This course program is suitable for secondary students and aims to expose the students to basic nursing skills and knowledge. 

Course Outline

·         Measure & record vital signs, eg. blood pressure, respiration and pulse rate                                          
·         Proper techniques of transferring and ambulating client
·         Assist client in shower bath                                                      
·         Perform simple wound dressing
·         Infection control – use of personal protective equipments (PPE)    
·         Assist in oral feeding                                                            

Mode of Teaching
Theory & practical sessions (comprises of a visit to one of our ECON nursing homes)

Who Should Attend?

·         Sec 3/4 Normal academic/technical students
·         *Certification of Attendance will be issued upon successful completion of the course.

3)    ISC-ITE Skill certificate in Healthcare (For internal staff only)

Course Objective
This course aims at building a pool of skilled healthcare assistants (HCAs) and encourages the development of individual staff’s capabilities – gain basic nursing care knowledge and skills, and experience real-life (on-the-job) training at nursing homes. After the successful completion of the Programme, the nursing staff can expect to acquire nationally recognized ITE certificate.

Who Should Attend?

·                Nursing aides
·                Health attendants (minimum GCE ‘N’ level)

*Applicants recommended by their employers will be admitted on a case-by-case basis, eg. Applicants with minimum Sec 2 qualifications or equivalent may need to undergo an interview with ITE personnel.

Certification
ITE Skills Certificate (ISC) in Health Care (Home care) is issued upon successful completion of the course.

Progression Opportunities
ISC in Health Care (Home Care) graduates with a good Grade Point Average (GPA) and GCE ‘N’ level may apply for progression to Nitec in nursing course offered by ITE.

4)    New Nursing Aides Training

Course Objective
This course serves as an induction program for the newly employed Nursing Aides – equip them with the general nursing knowledge and clinical skills required by the nursing homes.
